Apply for funded education for 2 year olds

2 year old boy and girl at a free funded early learning setting.

Children develop more rapidly in the first three years of their life than at any other time. They learn huge amounts and also begin to understand how to learn and become curious to find out more.

Whilst every child is different and children do not grow and develop at the same rate; all young children benefit from playing with supportive adults, at home and outside the home.

Early education is designed to provide children with developmentally appropriate play and learning opportunities at approved:

  • childminders
  • children’s centres
  • day nurseries
  • playgroups
  • preschools
  • schools.

Good quality, play based, early education in one of these settings can improve a young child’s chances of success in later life and of course, also provides the child’s parents or carers with the chance to go out to work.

There are two types of funding for two-year-old applications.

  • Bright Futures for two-year-olds.
  • Childcare support for two-year-olds.

Find details and how to apply on Slough Borough Council website.

How to use the funded early education place

Once your eligibility has been confirmed, you will be able to look for an early education place that suits you and your child. Places are available at approved nurseries, pre-schools, children’s centres and childminders.

You can discuss the hours your child attends with your chosen early years’ provider. For example, you may choose to use 15 hours a week term-time only or fewer hours a week over a full year.

For help to find a place email FIS@slough.gov.uk, call the Slough Family Information Service on 01753 476589 or the Early Years Service on 01753 476554.
