We have an area for the children to grow their fruit and vegetables. We have sand and water play.

We spend a lot of time outside we go to Cliveden, Burnham Beeches, parks, Windsor. The children love to be soldiers, we have been on boat rides and public transport.

Special Educational Needs policy

We follow the EYFS 2014 and provide an inclusive environment for all our children and their families. We offer a clean and friendly home environment so all the children feel valued, they can play, learn and develop. The children learn through play. We follow the Equality Act 2010 and SEND Code of Practice 2014.

Teaching and learning

We use the EYFS as a guide to each child's development. We use each child's interests and preferences to stimulate and encourage their participation and interest.  We encourage the children in my setting to develop a healthy respect of each other's differences and to value everyone as an individual.

Identifying and assessing Special Educational Needs

Before children start at our setting, we invite them to come and have a visit. we ask them questions about the child to assess their needs.  We do a starting points form that the parents fill in that helps us see where the child is, in the EYFS stage.

We monitor the child's development through the

  • EYFS
  • I Talk
  • 2 year progress check

If we identify any areas of learning that concerns me, we will ask consent from parents to contact outside agencies.

Involving parents and children/young people in planning and reviewing progress

We work closely with our parents as communication is very important to us. At our 1st meeting we talk about  the child's needs and ask if the parents have any concerns. We talk to parents each day as to what we have done that day and share any photos that have been taken.

We talk to parents regarding any changes, likes, dislikes on a daily basis.

We invite parents to view their child's learning and development folders.

Additional support

We have the support from the SEN advisors from the Early Years Team.

Extra activities

As a setting,  we try to go out most days to the woods, parks and National Trust to help the children to explore the environment.

We full risk assess all places that we visit.

Meeting social and emotional needs of children/young people

As part of the curriculum, all children's personal, social and emotional needs are assessed. When playing with the children, we build and support what the children can do and build on their confidence.

Keeping up to date with knowledge and skills

Myself and my assistant attend ongoing training as and when needed.

Transitions

We encourage visits before a child starts our setting.

We do settling in sessions

We visit other settings with the children that they will be going to ie schools, nurseries to help with the transition.
