Special Educational Needs policy

The school has the Stautory Policies in place including an SEND Policy in place which is reviewed annually taking into account the current changes.

Teaching and learning

• Support for pupils on the SEN register is through QFT and effective interventions delivered by qualified teachers and trained TAs.
• Teachers have high expectations of pupils.  
• The teaching of reading, writing, communication and mathematics is highly effective and the school thoughtfully plans SMSC development allowing children to thrive in a learning based community
• There is a language rich environment and high quality questioning used by adults to promote the children’s thinking and their learning

 

Identifying and assessing Special Educational Needs

Individual Provision Maps: As with all pupils, progress is monitored closely and if necessary, external agencies are invited to discuss concerns with parents and teaching staff. All pupils with SEN have individual Provision Maps which have been shared with Parents. They are then reviewed each term. These IPMs also have three SMART targets for each child and are reviewed on a termly basis.

Involving parents and children/young people in planning and reviewing progress

In addition to the Annual Review, parents are invited for Parents evenings three times a year. In addition if any parent has concerns about their child's progress they can contact either the Class Teacher, SENCO or a member of the SLT to discuss their concerns.

Meeting social and emotional needs of children/young people

The School operates a Zero Tolerance approach to bullying and has an Anti-Bullying and E-Safety Policy in Place. Termly Workshops address topical issues around staying safe on the Internet and an effective PSHE Curriculum addresses Bullying.

The School has a Learning and Emotional Support Hub where pupils with Social and Emotional Needs are supported through various workshops and clubs.

The school has embedded emotional well being into the curriculum and a range of external agencies work with the school to provide strategies to support a positive well being outlook and also strategies to support if the pupils are having difficulties 

Keeping up to date with knowledge and skills

The school has a comprensive CPD programme where training is delivered by both Internal and External Visitors. The Inclusion Manager has close links with numerous support agencies who provide regular training of staff and Teaching Assistants.

Transitions

The school has developed close links with the local secondary schools thereby managing transition effectively. The needs of the pupils are discussed with the relevant schools and a programme of support is put into place.

Internal Transition involves the whole school at all levels where the primary aim is to ensure all essential information follows the childs journey in school.
