What is Slough Scouting?

Scouting is a charity organisation across the UK, giving both volunteers and young people the chances to socialise and get involved in outdoor activity. In Slough there are 11 groups of a diverse range of young people that meet practically every night of the week.

A range of adventurous activities such as climbing, sno-tubing, archery, potholing and many more are organised enabling over 500 young people to try new adventures; experience the outdoors; interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

  • Beaver Scouts are aged between 6 and 8 years.
  • Cub Scouts are aged between 8 and 10 ½ years
  • Scouts are aged between 10 ½ and 14 years. 
  • Explorer Scouts are aged between 14 and 18 years.

There are scouts group throughout Slough, including Cippenham, Britwell, Langley, Wexham and Upton.

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

A Cub Scout Pack has both male and female members who are aged between 8-10 ½ years old. Cub Scouts will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, community and collecting. Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack.

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. The Scout Troop is the third and final Section in the Scout Group.

Explorers Scouts are for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old and is run as a District provision. Along side this Explorer Scouts can also be Young Leaders helping with the younger sections, this can be used towards the Duke of Edinburgh scheme's volunteering requirements.

Once you have joined online you will receive an immediate response with details of your local Head Volunteer. They will tell you where your local groups are and will give you guidance on the next steps of becoming a scout.
