Special Educational Needs policy

I have wheelchair access to my house and have easy access to all the toys and learning equiptment. I have a down stairs toilet for all children. I do starting points with each child with the parents. I work along the EYFS seven aeras of leaning. I do reguler observations and weekly books. If i have a child under the three i do a daily book. I am in constant contact with the parents every day. If any contact arise, i will discuss with the parents and if needed would talk to their health visitor with them.

Teaching and learning

Work along the EYFS seven areas of learning and speak to the parents. Use starting points on the children. Do regular observations and weekly records. I plan my time with the children on the progress or level I think they are at, this can vary depending on a childs development. I have no staff.  Use EYFS as a guide on development, using starting points when a child when starts, do regular observations and weekly books as a guide line.

Identifying and assessing Special Educational Needs

Going on observations and EYFS. If the child is not reaching the right levels of development and working along with parents. The parents are asked to sigh the observation books.       Work along with parents and health visitor to meet the childs needs. Speak to professionals with permission if needed. I have concerns book and I speak daily to the parents.

Involving parents and children/young people in planning and reviewing progress

I do starting points with the parents when they start. I do regular observation and weekly books on the children. I talk daily with the parents and share any concerns. I give the parents the observations books of their child which they can write any concernsthey may have about their child. I also have an email and phone which they can call me on. If parennts require any training I would seek advice on what traning courses are available for parents. I listen to the children and try to plan around their needs, and work along with the EYFS in the seven areas.

Additional support

I have wheel chair access to my house, I have easy access to all the toy's and learning equipment. Make reasonable adjustments to the setting if needed. Work with parents and health visitor and put in place additional support which is recommended. Work with parents and their own health visitors and work along with local authority support.

Extra activities

Before the child starts talk with the parents, involve parents in put on their childs outings and trips. Do risk assessments prior to trips and outings.

Meeting social and emotional needs of children/young people

I do a Paediatric First Aid course every three years and safe guarding. I keep records of any accidents or injurys and medication, I also do risk assessments. I talk daily to the parents about any concerns they have on their childs development and behaviour. I am with the children at all times. If I thought I saw any bullying I would speak to the parents about any concerns or problems.

Keeping up to date with knowledge and skills

I am up to date with Paediatric First Aid and safe guarding. I keep up with some of the training courses, and enquire on any training courses if needed as I do not have any staff.

Transitions

I arrange settling in visits with the parents and do starting points which involves myself and parents. Arrange visits with new setting with the parents permission, I would go to the new setting with them and share any information required for the child with their learning books.

Helpful contacts

If parents have any concerns about their child I would advise them to speak to their health visitor or G.P
