EarlyBird Plus is a programme designed and owned by the National Autistic Society for parents/carers of pre-school children with s medical diagnosis of autism. It is delivered under licence in Slough by members of the Autism, Social Communication and Interaction Team within the Integrated Support Service.
EarlyBird Plus is designed for families whose child receives a later diagnosis of autism and is aged between 4 years and 8 years (Early Years or Key Stage One provision).
The EarlyBird Plus programme addresses the needs of both home and school by training parents/carers together with the members of the school setting who work regularly with the child.
EarlyBird Plus uses the established EarlyBird framework of teaching all those involved with the child about autism before considering how to develop communication or management of behaviours. It is designed to enable families and school to work in partnership to ensure the needs of the child are met within an educational environment.
The programme consists of 8 group sessions and two home visits. A follow up session is held six months after the programme has been completed to establish how successfully the techniques acquired on the course have been put into effect both within the home and at school.
All Earlybird Plus practitioners have Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. This is available for you to see at any time. All members of the Autism, Social Communication and Interaction Team have a photograph identification badge which they are required to wear at all times.
