Childcare and early years education (SEND)

A little girl under 5 in an early years setting.

Good quality childcare helps children to:

  • become independent
  • mix with other children
  • learn new things.

Choosing the right childcare can be a difficult decision for every parent.

Coram's guide provides information on:

  • your rights are as a parent
  • childcare and early support that should be available locally in England
  • childcare options and guidance on what support your local authority (council), early years childcare and schools should – and in some cases must – offer you
  • Education, Health and Care assessments and plans
  • the 0–25 SEND Code of Practice
  • how you can challenge decisions that you are not happy with
  • financial support available including help with childcare costs
  • useful contacts.

Early years education settings in England have a duty to support children with special educational needs (SEN).

Slough Early Years settings offer:

  • funded early education
  • childcare

for all eligible children.

Settings work within the guidelines of the SEND Code of Practice to meet children's needs.

They offer:

  • individualised planning and provision
  • extra support through a multi agency approach and partnership working with parents
  • higher level of intervention through specialist placements.
