Short breaks statement and activities

Short breaks provide children and young people with disabilities the opportunity to:

  • have fun
  • take part in positive experiences

whilst providing the family a break from their caring responsibilities.

Short breaks can come in different forms, lasting from anything between a couple of hours to an overnight stay.

The the length and type of short break will depend on your child, young person and the family’s circumstances.

There are activities which you can access directly without the need for a child and family assessment by a social worker.

If you require a specialist short break through the Children with Disabilities Team, a child and family assessment will need to be carried out by a social worker.

Commissioned providers provide these short breaks. Check details in the sections below.

As part of our agreement with these organisations they are required to provide:

  • quarterly feedback from parents/carers and children and young people
  • accounts and data

to inform us about participation and development of future services.

If you have been on any Short Break activity, please provide feedback using the online form on Slough Children First website to help us improve the service.
