Safe sleep bitesize training - 15 May

This multi-agency training is aimed at practitioners and volunteers who:

  • work with families, especially those visiting families at home
  • are not routinely giving safe sleep advice
  • want to improve their knowledge and confidence.

All sessions are delivered via MS Teams.

  • Wednesday 10 July, 10.30-11.30am.

Charlie Waller Trust offer free mental health webinars to all staff and any parents/carers.

Everyday First Aid training - 24 April

Are you interested in learning essential, life-saving first aid skills to help in an emergency? If so, SCVS offers a course for you!

This is an interactive workshop, run by an experienced British Red Cross educator, where you will:

  • tackle four first aid skills and
  • have the opportunity to ask questions.

The aim is to build confidence so you can help someone in a first aid emergency, using everyday objects that you have around you.

Reducing parental conflict - Early Help, Slough Children First

Early Help offers the following practitioner training that can be tailored to the needs of your service and team structure.

What is parental conflict? What can Slough do about parental conflict? (2 part workshops) (2 hours total)

  • Part 1 - introduction to parental conflict, the causes and the impact on children
  • Part 2 - covers the interventions available, referral pathways and a closer look at the interventions themselves.

The spectrum of conflict (1 hour and 30 minute workshop)

  • This workshop is delivered with Rachel Axtell – Domestic Abuse practitioner From Slough Borough Council.
  • We discuss the importance of support for parental conflict and the differences from domestic abuse in the context of Slough and its residents.
  • We also have an informal conversation about embedding within daily practice and available support for vulnerable families. 

OnePlusOne digital interventions

The sessions aim to enhance your knowledge, understanding, skills, and confidence to work with parents.

By the end of the training you will be able to:

  • raise parents’ awareness of the issue of parental conflict.
  • use digital resources to help parents recognise conflict.
  • enable parents to develop positive communication skills and helpful conflict behaviours.

Early Help can also:

  • offer case consultations to practitioners who would like to gain further clarification on case direction for complex cases.  
  • attend team meetings to raise awareness of parental conflict and the support available for families.
  • devise a bespoke package of support for your organisation that suits you needs.

Substance and alcohol addiction - Turning Point

Turning Point offers free training for professionals in Slough on substance and alcohol addiction.

On the last Thursday of every month from 11am to 12noon, via Teams. No need to book!

Learn about:

  • the myths and facts
  • different treatment pathways, to support recovery. offered by the Young People Service, Rough Sleepers Community Hub and START 
  • the peer mentor and volunteer service and how to get involved
  • how to improve your personal skills to motivate and encourage clients into treatment
  • referrals and why not everyone succeeds in treatment the first time
  • the Turning Point team.

Understanding eating disorders - Beat

School Professionals Online Training (SPOT) aims to increase understanding of eating disorders.

The training helps you to:

  • spot the early signs in children of school age
  • talk to a pupil exhibiting signs of the disorder
  • engage with their families
  • support pupil and family to seek medical assessment.
